Op-ed: We all suffer from Illinois' budget crisis

RBC Executive Committee Chair John Bouman published several op-eds discussing the recent Paul Simon Public Policy Institute poll and the devastating impact of the budget impasse. The poll revealed that one in every three people have been directly affected by the budget impasse, meaning that if you haven’t been harmed, one of your neighbors probably has been. Illinois’ failure to pass a fully funded, responsible budget has deprived people of services they badly need, including mental health services, substance abuse treatment, child care, senior care, HIV prevention, and even food programs. “We all suffer when our communities are in trouble” said Bouman as he continued to call on Governor Rauner and lawmakers to resolve the budget crisis quickly and responsibly.
