Illinois Again Fails to Enact a Responsible Budget

The regular session of the General Assembly ended in failure last night as our elected officials missed yet another deadline to pass a fully-funded budget that invests in Illinois' policy priorities. This latest failure will exacerbate the already disastrous consequences of the budget impasse and must be corrected with a responsible budget that chooses revenue before FY16 ends at the end of June.

NBC 5: North Side Provider Forced to Cut Services for 6,000 Immigrant Families

RBC Member Centro Romero, located on Chicago's Northside, has been forced to serve 6,000 fewer immigrant families this year due to the budget impasse.  Centro Romero helps provide families with job skills, English and GED courses, and many other services that are vital for the economy and improving communities and families. Check out the video from NBC 5. RBC Demands Real Progress Towards Responsible Budget

The General Assembly passed a spending plan that is woefully short of the revenue needed to provide vital services that support families, communities, and small businesses.  At the same time the Governor continues to insist on linking his “Turnaround Agenda” to the passage of a budget. 220 Organizations Send Letters to Governor and General Assembly to Urge Budget Action

Over 220 providers and organizations wrote the Governor today asking him to approve emergency funding for human services (SB 2038) and to work with the General Assembly to pass complete, fully funded budgets for FY16 and FY17. They sent a separate letter to General Assembly members to remind them passing SB 2038 is not a substitute for passing fully-funded budgets.  The letters were signed by many, many RBC members.

Bouman to Rauner: "Do Your Job"

WATCH the video. Shriver Center President John Bouman was in Springfield this week to tell Governor Rauner to end the hostage taking. "We need a budget now, we don't need it at some hazy future date...We need to say to everyone in that building, but especially the chief executive, we need a budget with adequate revenue and we need you to do your job."
